I have a question for all those Owl finch owners...have you ever experienced this ~ I was putting a food dish in one of the pairs cage, the bold male was ready to jump on the dish to see what was in it. The little female was on top of the wooden nest box, she was chirping and tapping on the roof of it with her beak, over and over.
I am assuming this is some type of alert signal...? She is more flighty than the rest, very nervous when I approach, so when I go to enter the room I make a little noise to let her know I am approaching. In doing so, this gives her time to get to the back of the cage or in a plant if she wants. She is calming down some the longer she is here and I noticed she stays on the top of the box sometimes opposed to flying back and forth.
The other pair just stands on a perch waiting for me to give food or water, they hop right down as soon as my hand leaves the cage, just as the flighty female's male does.

Oh my yes I would love to be a bird whisperer. And a dog whisperer. I would love to know what my one dogs went through as a puppy before I got her, she is somewhat timid and frightened of things...she was a mill dog. Unlike my other dog which is funny, bold and energetic despite her little size.

Re: Owl tapping
Oh my, just thought of something ~ if I was a bird whisperer I would hear things like "more millet please", "Goodness why did she pair me with him", "That egg food was a bit chunky for my liking, I just want seed", "get a load of what she is wearing today", "Hey they stole my coco fiber strand".
Can you just imagine it!!!

Re: Owl tapping
Been there done that, one left in our nest...she wants a car!!!!!
It would be crazy to be able to read pets thoughts, could you imagine how many pet lives would be changed if we could just read their thoughts and help them be happy. They could tell you why they don't feel good, or why they ate your shoe, when they have to go out. They could tell you how much they love you and want to be with you when you leave. It would be so cool.
