Spice Finches

Post by krazy4gouldians » Fri Sep 18, 2009 6:22 pm

Hey everyone! I traded my society back in to petsmart for a spice finch, I really like there colors a lot better to the contrast of my gouldians. So does anyone here raise, breed, or keep spices? I love my spice, it is very beautiful in person. I did my research and read the information about them on the finch info site and efinch.com plus various other sites! Pictures welcome to! Thanks!!!

I have two "pairs" (sister and brother are the second pair). They are lovely finches, aren't they? Sis and bro are kept in a cage with nuns, bronze wings, and orange cheeks, and they all get along great. Mom and dad are in with shafties, green singers and a zebra. I wouldn't try mixing them with more passive species - I had some problems early on with them being just a tad too aggressive. Could have just been my particular birds, though.

I just removed three babies from my aviary.
Here is a pic of two with a young cutthroat in flight.

I love spice finches also, but with the limited room I have I try to get more exotic species. I'm glad that you got some though, let us know how the do.

I just got the offer for 2 spice finches that I will get tomorrow! :D

The lady rescued them from some warehouse (!) where they were kept in a cage pretty much in the dark when the warehouse was closed...

They should get along fine in my mixed aviary. Right?
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Mine are peaceful, even during breeding.
