java finch

Post by adiekaty » Wed Sep 30, 2009 11:06 am

hello... her i am again with more questions....LOL

i aquired a pair (or so i think) of Java's along with 4 babies. said to be theirs. Anyhow, have the babies on CL cause 6 Java's are too many... My question is... I cant tell the adults apart at all... They have no song really, just each make noises... They do however preen each other and seem to really like each other. Is this normal in just a bonded pair? or would same sex Java's do this too? I have looked at a ton of photos showing me how to tell the sex... I cant figure it out. For being such a large finch... thay are very sweet natured and are great with the Societies. Oh... Also I have 1 lonely spice... How can i tell what he/she is so I can get another. Or will it just do fine on its on? its also in the aviary with the others.

Thanks...
Adrienne
BTW... The lovebirds started hatching on Sunday... OMG... They are so stinking cute!!!(they are not housed with the finches)
Gouldians, Societies, Java's, Spice, Magpie Mannikins and Lovebirds...
Two German Shorthair Pointers, 2 cats, 2 Bearded Dragons, 1 Blue Tongue Skink, aquarium with a betta and 22 koi in a pond out back!!!!
A box turtle and a softshell turtle...
Can I count the husband and 3 kids in here too?

Take pictures of each Javas's head especially the beak. We might be able to help sex them.
2 Cutthroat, 2 Java+(1 chick), 2 Zebra, 1 Society, 1 Yellow (female) & 1 Red bronze Canary(male), 2 Parakeets

Dont think I can... They are in the aviary. I would never be able to get a shot like that... Thats why I was trying to get some behavioral patters....
Thanks though... Figured if they preened each other... it was a pair?
