egg food

Post by star » Mon Oct 05, 2009 9:38 am

I like some others can't get my birds to eat boiled egg either. I was thinking of buying egg food but the ones at the stores here in town have sugar and honey in them and want $10 for a little bag. So what kind do any of you use and where do you purchase yours. Also do your finches like it?

Honey is a natural source of carbohydrates (read: sugar) and is not bad for finches.
Honey is actually really good for birds, as is propolis, bee pollen and royal jelly - as with anything, in moderation.
The amount of honey in soft foods like Orlux is negligible..

I like the Orlux Gold and Fruitti Patees, as well as Morning Bird's Miracle Meal.
I also have the Mike Fidler Complete Softfood, but have had a hard time getting my birds to eat it.

I offer Orlux Tropical Finch Eggfood mixed with my hardboiled eggs and soaked seed - every one of my finches flock to this every morning.

Although I do have to crush it up a little on occasion, we use the CeDe egg food snack and most of our guys gobble it up. Still there is a cage or two where they don't bother with it too much. That is until chicks hatch and then we have to double up on the egg food for a while.

Feast by Bird Care company has a new simple feeding system out. You feed the dry egg crumble for 5 days and the other crumble for 2 days. The first contains calcium and ALL birds should have a break from calcium. Their bodies utilize the calcium better this way. Much better for the blood. This food also contains probiotics, etc. It is expensive but replaces 5 product in one if your birds will eat it. Mine love it :D
They have a Maintenance, Breeding, and Moulting formula so it makes year round nutrition a no brainer. You just offer a good seed mix and in some cases(soft water) additional calcium. Great taste....I have tried it on gouldians, waxbills, grasskeets. parrot finches, societies, zebras and they all ate it with the first introduction.
