red christmas tree lights
After many hours of switching a string those little tiny lights to red, I have one worn down thumb nail, crossed eyes, a BIG headache and birds that wont go to sleep!!!! Do you suppose they are to bright???? Did I get the wrong kind???

Re: red christmas tree lights
I use blue LED christmas lights, and yes there is plenty enough light that they can still play. Buy they settle down after a while.

Re: red christmas tree lights
I bought some white mini lights and strung them up. Way too bright, but as Gary says, they do settle down after a while.
The lights I have up from previous years in a different part of the room are perfect - very dim white mini lights. Go figure!

I bought strings of orange halloween lights, the glare is minimum.

Re: red christmas tree lights
Are these lights of the enclosures? Used for night lights or heating? This sounds interesting...

These are used as night lights - strung around the cages or aviaries. Mine are on timers that come on five minutes before the regular daytime lights go off; and in reverse, the mini lights go off five minutes after the regular daytime lights come on.

Re: red christmas tree lights
Remember what you are going for when you put up the lights.... simulating the moonlight.
So some regular christmas or holloween strands of white, purple, blue, red or orange should suffice. The moon light is quite bright so its ok if its pretty bright. The birds will be just fine. I have a mix of orange and purple holloween lights. Birds have never had a problem.

If the bulbs are incandescent (vs LEDs) you can also put a dimmer on the line and make the lights even dimmer. That would reduce the playing after the lights go out, as the Christmas lights would be too dim to play.
