Green Millet

Took these shots yesterday evening, December 15, and the millet is sprouting in the seed dumped in the corner of the yard. I have young broccoli growing in the background. California golden millet and siberian red millet.... these are all volunteer plants from discarded seed.......
I have some planted millet crops...intentionally grown...yet they do not have seed heads yet.

Yes...when it is full of milk they will devour it. They really like the young broccoli leaves too.

My finches rarely do anything more than a little pick at green millet heads. I have bags of them frozen from last season which they hardly touched.

its the first thing my birds eat and when its finished they go looking for more

Mine too love the millet.... I try to grow a few raised beds....It produces a good bit but never enough to dry...they eat it all fresh. I buy the dry millet by the 25 lb. box
Seems the gouldians don't have a preferrence whether fresh or dry, then again they aren't crazy about green foods in general. The parrot finches and goldbreast love it most...
and of course my zebras would eat green cardboard if I gave it to them

Every time I put them in, they stay there until they are brown and still full of seed. I think mine are so used to green panic and johnson grass that they ignore everything else.
