traits to ID a female penguin?

Post by ac12 » Tue Jan 12, 2010 8:53 pm

I've been looking at pictures trying to figure out the traits to look for to ID a female penguin when I look at a bunch of female zebras at a bird mart. The only thing I can see different on the eFinch site is the penguin does not have the "tear drop" marking. Other than that I can't seem to find any other differing traits. Can anyone help with this, thanks.

Cary,
The females tend to be a more brighter white and the white extends past the eyes and cheeks/foreheads on a well bred penquin. below is a pic of a grey penquin female and a fawn group. Notice the amount of white on the face. Also many regular grey females have shading on the breast...penguins are a true even white from chin to vent.
