So I maybe getting a Zebra soon. But i'm now starting to have a second thought about male or female cacuse my Society might be a MALE!


It makes this buzzing type sound and at time may be VERY noisy. Can any on help?

The my spice. the other day ti was hopping around the society and chirping nonstop! It could have been a mating dance thig? I REALLY need help.

http://www.singing-wings-aviary.com/societyfinches.htm has a short video clip of a male society courting a hen (includes audio of his song). Songs vary among males, but that should give you a general idea about the noises they make while singing.

As long as you aren't planning on breeding your birds, it shouldn't matter if you chose a male or female zebra to add to the mix. Don't give them any nesting opportunity and you shouldn't have a problem with any potential hybrid babies. You might run into problems trying to house just 3 birds together (especially since one of them will be a zebra)--sometimes housing any more than 2 birds but fewer than 6 will result in bickering, especially with species like zebra finches. This is not always the case, however, and you may end up having no problems; it really depends on the individual birds.
