I don't think there is a "perfect" cage out there anywhere! :(

Liz, you're right about that! It's cool how people are modifying what's out there to fit their needs.

No, I think Paul was saying that's who he was trying to keep in one half of the cage.

I've been too sick to do much, but finally got the inside wood frame painted, added the masonite to the bottom (under the tray which is lined with kraft paper) to keep birds in when the tray is out for cleaning.
Then I did a dry fit of the outside (unpainted) trim, which I'll be attaching the hinges/door to when I feel better.

Will try to get the door on and get it painted this weekend. The GBs are not getting back to business, so once I get the perches and ivy in this cage, it may be used for a pair of Gouldians. I've been talking to a local breeder who has a male ready to go in a couple of months. He's BH, PB/WB, NB. I was hoping to get a WB male, and either a WB female or PB/WB female, since some recommend it's better to breed split to WB to WB rather than WB to WB.

This breeder says the male is also split to BB, and later this summer she should have a female WB also split to BB. So I'm just not sure if I want to get the male now, and have to keep him as a single until she has a female that's suitable. I'd feel bad keeping him alone, but I can't really afford to get another just to keep him company, unless its a mutation/color I want. Only two cages... just not enough room! So I'll just have to decide after the bird mart here on May 3. Someone there may have a female that's suitable so I wouldn't have to keep him alone for long... Can hardly wait!

But I still have a nest in with the GBs. If I get the Gouldian I should probably take the nest out, right? (assuming there are still no eggs by then)...

Well I finally got around to finishing the cage modifications, but never got around to posting. I’ve never used the cage yet, as my GBs have been tossing chicks, so I’ve given up on breeding them this year. We’ve decided that due to our limited space, we’d rather have the room for an aquarium, so this cage is going to be sold.
But I thought I’d still post pictures, in case someone else can use them to modify a cage for themselves.
One picture shows the masonite bottom I added (see at the back of the partially slid out tray), to prevent escapes while the tray is out for cleaning.

The next picture shows the door that covers the opening when the tray is out.

I’ll also post a picture of the whole cage, in the marketplace, in case anyone is interested.
