The Birth of My Birdroom

Post by FeatherHarp » Thu May 31, 2012 6:15 pm

Well this photo won't seem like much to most of you but to me it is so exciting! The fact that my bird room is officially on paper makes me so happy to know it will become a reality. (We are building a retirement home and this is one of the bedrooms). The room is not very big but it is going to be All MINE  (and my birdies too) to do with what I want. It will be my sanctuary to retreat to. :-D So I just wanted to share my excitement with you.

And since saving this photo the bedroom grew another 2 1/2 inches. Hey!....I will take what I can get!

Here is a BirdsEye view of the future Birdroom.

How absolutely exciting! I'm jealous! I actually have a second kitchen that has been converted into a birdroom but I'm not really allowed to CALL it a bird room, lol.

What a wonderful thing! Is this an addition that is being added to your home or this is a room that is being restructured/redesigned for your birds? How awesome will it be to just go in and sit amongst the birds and drink your morning coffee or read a book? =D>

Thanks Lisa. I edited my first post to clarify and say that we are building a retirement home. My birdroom is one of the bedrooms. And how nice you get to have a...um....Kitchen/Birdroom too! :D

That's awesome.... I would be so excited I probably wouldn't even be able to sleep, thinking of how I was going to set everything up. My kitchen is an open room so I can't allow the birds to fly freely in there; they still have to be caged but the cages have quickly overtaken the room. I would absolutely LOVE to have a closed room that I could totally devote to my birds as you will soon have. Congrats - I'm so happy for you! :)

I couldn't be more thrilled for you! I feel your excitement and can't wait to see the progress. First question... what color will you paint it?

Congrats! It will be so exciting to plan each detail of the room, and now you will have room for more cages.

Congratulations! Just keep in mind, you may end doing what I did, which was I made my study a birdroom, then I wanted some where I was doing stuff, so I put a fun cage of owls back into the family room. Now, I'm planning to add a flight to the family room, of my favorite finches. These will be ones who are "retired" and are just for beauty and song, so I can enjoy them while I'm in the other part of the house. I still love the bird room and sit and watch them frequently, but I keep the breeders in that room so I can control the temp without getting the rest of the house too hot. It's great! You'll love it.

Thanks everybody for sharing in my excitement....I find myself thinking about how to decorate the birdroom more than how to decorate and paint the rest of the house...LOL!

For the color of the bird room I am deciding between an off-white/cream color or possibly a soft pale green tone. With the room being small and having a North facing window I want to choose a nice light color to keep the room bright. Especially with 4 black flight cages going in there. They will make things seem darker I imagine. As for cage placement I will wait till I roll them in there and play musical cages until I like the placement. Round and round they go...where they stop nobody knows!

For the flooring I will pick some kind of light color sheet vinyl for easy cleanup. But I don't know which way to go for window treatments. Curtains or mini blinds...that is the dilemma. Maybe one of those sheer fabric washable shower curtains? I am wondering what would work best since I will most likely have a parrot or two of some kind that might be flying around in addition to my finches so I want something bird safe. If anybody has any thoughts or suggestions I am all ears! :-D

Oh....and I even negotiated a nice extra wide shower unit for the bathroom with a low step-in with the reasoning that we may have to fit a wheel chair in there in the future but I am really thinking ahead so I can roll my cages in there to wash them in the Winter if I need to. I don't think Hubby even suspects my motive....hehehe....My Bad!

FinchMix22.....I do plan to keep my white flight cage for the living room area for enjoying some of my finches too. That is one of the down sides of a birdroom...they are away from the living area. But someday I hope to have an enclosed aviary in the living room to keep the seeds and mess contained while enjoying the birds.

LOL love that you know where your priorities are! Poor unsuspecting husband... wheelchair / wheel cage. =D>

Enjoy the new project. I'm sure you are going to have fun.
