Re: 7-6 pics Gold Breast w/ white, Black cheek zebs, Shaftai
Today I decided to try to get a few pictures, couldn't get real close. While photographing the GBreast offspring, seeing the male in flight I noticed even after the big molt he did keep his white feathers, contrary to what I originally thought. I had not been able to get to the top tiers very well to really look, from the floor looking up he appeared have lost the white. Whether the white will remain after the next molt...we will see.
The Shaftails sat nicely for me. You can see the orange tint to the one beak but the other still has that pearl pink but looks as though it may turn light orange. It has been this way for a while now...not sure if this is it or it will change.

[quote'"cindy"]Domenic....I would foster them under the one sweet pair og Black cheeks. They are so devoted, not one tossed egg or chick that was not their own. Give me a few weeks to get the clutch they have feeding out settled and partial use of the casted hand...would you like Black cheeks? I have two different pairs, one pair lays eggs but tosses or leaves them...I can send eggs from both and from my normal zebras that produce fawns, Coco came from them. Shaftails will be at the start of the Fall I still have the 4th clutch here and would like to rehome them first.[/quote]
Sorry I didn't even see this!
Sounds great. I'm sure your black cheeks would foster CFW chicks no problem. I would love black cheek zebbies. Right now I have a whole bunch of normals and fawns so I think I would hold off on Cleo and Patches' eggs at least until I can rehome my current ones. I'm having an extremely difficult time with that..
Fantastic pics! All of your birds colored out beautifully. If I were closer I would snap up those shafttails in a heart beat. They are so robust and healthy looking.

Domenic, it will be a little while yet before i will put the shaftail and black cheek back to nest. Cleo and Patches will be on rest for the next few months. Once in a while they lay an egg in a seed cup and I put it under the black cheek. I just took the nest box away from the foster pair of black cheek to give them a rest as they wean their second clutch out. The other pair of black cheek have very young hatchlings in ther nest right now, guessing 2 to 3. I will remove their box so I do not have to many extra baby bck and cages to care for right now.
The shaftail are very comical as a group...fun to watch. One young male loves to swing and sing. They follow each other in fly patterns around the flight. You would love them. We can definately try shaftail eggs again.
Part of the reason for pulling boxes right now is that it takes me twice as long to clean and feed everyone one handed. I have 7 more weeks for total recovery and I get back onto my bike...nest boxes will go back on when the doctors says I can resume full activity, I can scrub cages down before starting a new breeding season. I'll let you know and we can plan an egg shipment again.

Thank you Donna....maybe with the next clutch they will do better. In the begining they tossed two and broke a couple of eggs, with practice they did better.
I hope you get a cream....they are so pretty. I have yet to see one in person.

Candace I used the good hand, my left one....why are some items set up for right handed use???? My right hand is casted to the finger tips except for my thumb...back of my hand is stitched and the hand has to remain still to let the tendons heal. Got a ways to go yet.
The finches are afraid of the cast so I could not get to close...that is why there are blurry bar lines n the pictures. I had to hurry and take it before they flew off!
