Soaked seed - how often?

Post by Ursula » Fri Jul 09, 2010 7:13 pm

I finally got myself a bag of ABBA soaked seed. It works pretty well with the instructions from their website, though I'm not sure if all seeds are sprouted enough. I have to experiment with the length of hours a little.

However, my question is: Are you feeding soaked seed daily or only a few times a week? Can I feed too much of it if I feed it daily?

I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

I give each cage of two breeding birds approximately 1/2 teaspoon of soakseed mixed with eggfood every day in the morning. If they have chicks - double it and supply it in the morning and refresh it in the late afternoon (dinnertime). When the chicks fledge give a little more so they can start eating it too.

When I soak my soakseed - I don't see any sprouts persay. The soaking just softens the seeds. Hope that helps.

I feed it to my birds daily.
the soaked seed is always the first that is eaten by the birds.
at present due to the birds all breeding they are eating their way through approx a kilogram (2 lb) each day.
thats a couple of hundred birds eating that amount though
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.

I also feed it daily......and I never see the sprouts either. But ilt is the first thing my birds go for also. I use these seeds when I want to sprinkle something on it such as spurila, feather fast etc.....

I give it to them every day.
However, I slow down and then stop giving them soaked seeds, if I feel that they are ignoring the other soft and dry foods and only eating the seeds. While the soaked seeds are easier to eat, I don't want them to ONLY eat the seeds. I primarily feed my birds pellet food, so I try to get them eating pellets as soon as I can, rather than have to convert them from seeds to pellets later, which I think is harder on the birds.

I give every day to birds that are breeding or molting - to birds that are resting, they get it 2-3 times weekly.
