Green Singer
This is the "supposed" green singer I rescued the other day...any thoughts? There doesn't seem to be enough yellow...

Re: Green Singer
I would guess that it's very young still? I don't know for sure, my babies are still in the nest though I have seen bits of yellow on them.

Re: Green Singer
This bird was in the pet store for 2 years...maybe bad nutrition affected the feathers...don't know.

Re: Green Singer
So it's certainly old enough to be in full colour - the poor thing! The tone of green on the body appears right for a Green Singer. Here's my pair.

Re: Green Singer
It was hard to get a picture, but from her chest down is yellow, above that is yellow/greenish brown mottled. Very confusing. And shes quite tiny.

Re: Green Singer
My Green Singers are just a smidgen bigger than my Gouldians. About the same size as my Society finches.allicat1229 wrote:It was hard to get a picture, but from her chest down is yellow, above that is yellow/greenish brown mottled. Very confusing. And shes quite tiny.

I was just looking at pics of European siskins. It may also be that.

Re: Green Singer
It is definitely not a pure Green Singer.
I have a lot of pictures of juveniles on my web site and non of them look like this. It could be a hybrid or some other Serinus. It would be interesting to find out what it actually is.

Re: Green Singer
I believe the black markings on the head are characteristic of Siskins. Just guessing.

Re: Green Singer
I think Fardad (psilocybin) could be a huge help here.

Re: Green Singer
My female Green Singer looks sort of like that during breeding season. She plucks feathers from her chest (or her mate does) and it looks dark like that. It could be this Green singer you rescued was plucking feathers or was getting plucked. Give it some time. It may look normal soon, it a better environment!

Re: Green Singer
Thanks everyone. Now that she is in a good place with good nutrition, hopefully she will molt and I can better tell. Time to just wait and see!
