Do female societies sing at ALL?

And Why oh why did nature not see fit to make them even a Little bit easier to sex??
I have my 4 new societies:
1 I know is a boy - and he sings something like a canary - quite pretty really.
And 3... well, who knows?
One of the three was chattering away this morning and seemed to be singing a "bit" - quietly and almost as if just testing it out; not their usual little quick vocalizations.
It doesn't sound anything like "Flumpy's" (my daughter named him... ) pretty song... so that made me wonder if perhaps the females sang.
Everything I've read says that if it sings at all... it's a boy - congrats...

With some other species such as Cordon Blues, both sexes sing, with the female's song being softer and shorter. But I've never heard of society female singing.

I've never, in all the society finches I've had over the years, heard a female sing, at all, poorly, or otherwise. I think you may have a young male, just learning to sing.

I can honestly say that none of my females sing...it does sound like a cage full of crickets though
None of my 3 males have the same song, not a single note that even sounds similar. I can tell you without looking at them whom is singing

Ok - so that's 2 down... 2 to go... unless they're females in which case I guess I'll just have to wait for eggs to confirm.
Please don't let them all be boys... have a devil of a time finding societies here for some reason. Not sure I can push hubby for another trip to the breeder

Crickets .. it's funny you should say that. The first night we had them I woke up to their chatter and thought it was the frogs outside!

I think its a male. Do you know there age?? He might be really young and still learning his song. I have a 2 1/2 month old society and he is strating to sing now but its really quiet and still scratchy sounding.

No - I"m afraid I have no idea of the age, but it really is like he's just testing out a song and not quite sure of the key

Ok - so, definitely 2 boys - hooray!
No eggs anywhere yet... so (darn) just have to be patient. I Have separated the 2 crested until I know for sure who is what, and I understand it's Not good to breed with 2 crested parents. But I'm curious - what are the results (no I"m not going to test it.. ?
- Bald chicks?
- mortality?
- sterile offspring?
