Still confused on sex of gould

Post by JohnBoy » Sat Jul 17, 2010 6:57 pm

I am still confused on the sex of my yellow back gould. I thought it was female because I have never heard the bird sing and I've had it for almost a year, yet it fights with every male I put in with it. I have a female in the cage with it now and it is not fighting with it. I now assumed it was male because since its molt it has two separate pin feathers on the tail. Isn't this characteristic of males only? And if it's a male it shows no interested in the female and it doesn't sing.
Here is a new pic of the bird you all saw when I got it last year. Half of you said it was male and half said female.

I really thought it was female also. Anyway, I put the new black head white breast male with her. So far she is not pecking at it. Every YH male I tried with her she would peck and chase them. Keeping fingers crossed. I am going to check the Gould chart to see what I can expect from offspring if indeed they breed. Thanks everyone.
