I just thought of something--could Casey get contact information on each person that buys some of those Lavenders? That way, if anyone winds up with same-sex pairs, they could contact the others for possible swaps.
I also forgot to mention your RCCB hen--she looks really good, has the typical RCCB beak, so hope you get some babies out of her.

Re: Woohoo - guess who got new birds last night?!
Thank you so much Janine! I hope they breed well for me.
Congratulations back to you too Sally and thank you at the same time!
I do hope you can get all your new birds that are waiting for you in Seattle!
Yes Lavenders do like fruit, which reminds me I better pick up some oranges tomorrow! Elegant describes Lavenders very well.
Donna (the resident expert with Lavenders) - do they eat any other fruits?

Congratulations back to you too Sally and thank you at the same time!

Thank you Renee!
It's going to be real hard as they are in my bathroom upstairs and I don't spend a lot of time in there; so I won't be able to hear them. I wonder if I split them into two cages and separate the cages by 10 or 15 feet - would they call/sing to each other?
Sally - I was just on that website yesterday with the song/calls. I couldn't listen as I was at work but I'll find time one of these evenings or on the weekend to listen to it... if I find it again.

My pair ended up being two hens. They would build and build the most beautiful nest.... lay eggs and nothing!! But I LOVE the birds. They are very friendly with all the others in the aviary , a bit shy. And yes, they love orange slices. I have bought from Misty some fruit pattee that they devour.
Also, if you remember I posted about my pair going into the gouldians nest and feeding their babies.

I have now put them at Misty's house with some males and brought a pair of her's to my house to try and get them to breed. Hopfully soon they can have some babies of their own.

Are your current m/f pair (from Misty) also friendly in the aviary? I was reading on the FIC that Lavenders are in the second tier (aggressive) towards other finches. Of course it says that about Shaftails too and my pair in the mixed double flight are fine with everyone else too. Maybe only certain other finches.dfcauley wrote:They are very friendly with all the others in the aviary , a bit shy. And yes, they love orange slices. I have some fruit pattee (thanks Janine!) so I'll give them some tonight.
Are oranges the only fruit they like?

If I was lucky enough to own a pair Liz
I would actually try a variety of different fruits that you may already have around in the house. They say almost anything in moderation, besides rubarb. So let's say, being as how it is the fruit season, apples, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries etc. That way you can discover which are their favorites, and which you can actually aovid wasting your money on.

They are beauties!! I love the Lavenders. Shaftails and Lavenders are the last two species on my 'want' list.

Thank you Lea. The Lavenders also cuddle together side-by-side to sleep.
Do all Lavenders do this? I suppose it's no indication of them being a M/F pair...?

You're killing me here, Judy! How often have I said that? Actually I never want more birds... until I see a different species
