Extra special Shaftail babies!!

Post by L in Ontario » Wed Jul 28, 2010 6:27 pm

I banded one of the two Shaftail chicks tonight. So why are these two so special? It's just because they are the very first chicks that this special pair of Shaftail parents have not tossed and that they are taking very good care of!! There were three other chicks (some older and one younger) but they were just on the cusp of getting over that last hurdle and those three did not survive. This is a major milestone for them. Obviously one chick hatched two or maybe even three days ahead of the other but they are feeding both of them. =D> The mother is a Creamino from Casey (petshop) and the father is from my Finch Forum neighbour in the province nextdoor (la belle province of Quebec)!

I do have four other older juveniles from this pair that I gave to my Societies to hatch and raise and they did a perfect job. But this time I refused to take any eggs or chicks away from the Shaftail parents and those three other babies paid the sacrifice. But I feel now we can celebrate these two babies from this pair and I know Janine is as proud of "her boy" Sundance, as I am for helping take care of these. =D>

Oh my, that is quite the difference in size.
And yes, I am very proud of that perfect gentleman for doing his share of the duties. =D>
On another note, I tried to tell his parents, Tux and Godfather...but they are busy incubating at least 4 eggs as we speak. Better left alone. [-X However, I am sure that they are just as proud of this young pair as I am. =D>

Thank you Lea. I'm so pleased they are feeding both despite the size/age difference! =D>
