Blue-faced Parrot Finch Babies! (1 fledged 7/30/10!!)
My only wish is that these guys could be raised by their biological parents but the parents haven't gotten over the hurdle of actually having to SIT on eggs yet.
So two eggs were removed from the nest and moved to my M/F pair of Socs who hatched them and are doing a very good job of feeding them. They should fledge in about another week or so. Looks like they will both be Blue-faced even though the mother is a Lutino. The first pic was taken on July 22nd and the second pic was taken tonight. They hatched on July 7th and 10th.

Spectacular!!
Hopefully the true parents will mature quickly and start handling their duties as mom and pop themselves

Lots of Red Throat Parrot Finches, Forbes, Gouldians, BCCB's, RCCB's, Owls, Societies, and BB Fires. Plus, one wonderful 15 year old son, one wonderful husband and two rotten-to-the-core Border Terriers.

Re: Blue-faced Parrot Finch Babies!
Thank you all!! The green is so vibrant at such a young age (unlike the green Gouldian chicks at this age).
Anna - I hope the parents catch on sooner rather than later. I just removed 3 more eggs from their nestbox yesterday and put 3 fakes in there. The eggs were laid around July 18, 20 and 27th. They are not sitting at all so we know the first two are most likely no good anymore but I put them in with my pair of male Socs anyway. I'm amazed the Parrot Finches at least lay the eggs in the nestbox. Someday they'll catch on that they need to STAY in there too!

Thank you. Really? They are your favourite? I thought Gouldians were.nixity wrote:Love them!

Thank you Lea. I can't get over how much brighter the green feathers are - it's like adult colours already.

Re: Blue-faced Parrot Finch Babies!
Liz, that's wonderful! I haven't seen a blue-faced around in ages, so tell those societies to take good care of those little guys and the parents to settle down to their job.
I have a red-faced hen who LOVES to sit on eggs - I think she's responsible for hatching out the owl baby I had in her cage, and I know I caught her feeding her - so I can't wait to find her another mate to see if she'd behave the same with her own chicks.

Liz,
I think you will be amazed how fast they color out.
My first batch hatched on 5/25, they have been fully colored out 2 weeks ago.
I am working on an order to get lutino BFPF, hope it goes through.
Congrats....

Beautiful chicks Albert... I am sorry that I haven't responded to your PM. I know noone with lutinos or any BF for that matter. I use to see them advertized in the FL classifieds but checked recently for you and none. I saw them in Orlando back in January at the bird fair but haven't been back and did not keep the breeders name.... lost it I guess. Best wishes finding some, will let you know if I run across any.

Are you getting them from Ponytail Joe? Do let us know when you get them!
I also have another possible shipper that ships birds to the USA - let me know if you need another contact, Albert.
