Lost 7 (SEVEN) of my birds!!!

Post by carmena » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:58 pm

Don't ask me how but I lost 6 of my breeder females and one male pied parrot finch.
I keep all the ladies in the house in a large flight cage. I placed the cage outside for fresh air and some light for a few minutes while I ran to pick up my son from school. When I returned I checked the birds and the side door was open and my nightmare was a reality.
This was yesterday and I have left the cage outside full of millet and water and seed and pellets (you name it) to see if anyone comes back but all day today I have not heard or seen a sound of anyone. [-o<
I am SICK and mad and disgusted. My beautiful blue girls that were molting, my yellow hen, my fully colored in baby girl I kept from the last 2 clutches of goulds...only 4 1/2 months and she was 100% colored in...GONE! My white breasted girl I saved from being egg bound a few years back, GONE. ugh
Now I have only 2 girls that I happened to put in my bird room and 6 boys. OY!!!
Have Gouldians and societies and fledglings of all of the above!!

A few parrotlets, and new shaft-tails!

It must be devastating to lose so many of your birds at once. I'm extremely sorry. :(

Keep trying to get them back. I would even play some gouldian calls on a stereo.

How terrible for you! I hope they will return to their cage. Was the male pied Parrot finch in the same cage?

Yes, I had put him in there since I had separated him from his previous mate. He was just starting a molt also. I remember thinking that I could either leave him in the bird room or enjoy him in the house...so much for that idea.

But thank you Allison for the parrot boy. I appreciate him and owe you one!

Since the cage is empty :( I left it outside in the same spot.
I put a bunch of millet in it and have the door propped open with a string running in the house so in case I see one I can shut the door. But I have not seen anyone yesterday at all. I am playing the recording (actually a youtube clip) of a gould pair calling to each other since most of my males are molting and not in the singing mood much. And it is so hot outside that I don't want to stress them. They say the heat index was 105 the other day...awful hot!! but it is quiet like a morgue out there... [-o< I have been dreaming about them 2 nights in a row...dreaming that I run outside to catch them.
OH THIS STINKS!

That is rotten. Perhaps you should place a lost and found ad in your local paper. They may turn up at someone's birdfeeder or be found by someone. My parents once found a budgie at their birdfeeder and were able to catch it and find a home for it. My uncle also had a cockatiel that had escaped perch on his shoulder while he was doing yard work one day. It was returned to it's very relieved owners.

Best of luck!
