Chestnut breasted mannikin

Post by dfcauley » Mon Sep 20, 2010 6:22 am

I added two CBM to my aviary this weekend. Sorry for the quality of these pictures.... I will take more later.

I didn't know the sex, but after observing them for a while it appears I have a m/f pair. I had a hen already and was looking for her a "friend" for quite some time. Unfortunately at the moment she doesn't want a thing to do with these two. They have tried to buddy up with her and she has just become a snob. HOpefully she will warm up to them.

I have already heard the male sing and the hens have the most annoying "squeak". In the pictures you will notice that one has a much lighter breast. That is my original one.

They have taken tons of baths in the aviary. It is too funny. It is as though they have never had a bath before. They won't stay out of the water. They are adjusting quite nicely. HOpefully some babies soon..... [-o<

These are nice! Congrat's! I love how the colors break up like a Gouldian but these guys look like a chocolate carmel gouldian, lol!

Very cute. They are pretty things. Not everyone has to have bright blue to be appreciated... although I am partial to blue! Lovely contrast with the other birds I agree.

Lovely pair :D I know what you mean about the unpleasant voices. I have had many mannikins in the past but what they lack in song they make up in beauty.

Congrats on getting the CBMs, Donna! They look very pretty, and let's hope they produce like your other birds are doing. Then you can have a mate for your little lone CBM.

Congrats. They're nice looking birds. l almost bought a pair a while ago but the price kept me from doing it. I think the male has a nice song that sounds a little like a Canary's from what I remember.

beautiful birds Donna, you'll spend hours enjoying their antics.
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.

Thanks everyone. I do love these birds. But I wish the one I had would warm up to the other two. It is just a little snob and prefers to sit all day by itself in the aviary.
