Chick tossing

What are some reasons zebra finch toss their chicks? I would like to avoid this.
A pair of Zebra finch. Male is Penguin and Female is Pied.

They don't usally toss most are pretty good at taking care of there chicks but sometimes i think they know something is wrong with a chick and thats when they toss.
Some birds don't like you to bother them when they have chicks just keep egg food and clean water and good seeds and stay out of there way :D

As Bill said, they may toss because they sense something is wrong with a baby. They may toss because it is a first-time clutch and they are inexperienced. They may toss because we peek or even just clean the cage too often. Remember, to them we are the big predator that looms over their cage. And they may toss if they have just one chick. Their primary drive is reproduction, and it seems they don't want to waste time on only one chick, or chicks with problems. A huge reason they toss is that they feel there is not an adequate or proper supply of food. In nature, birds breed in the spring and summer, or when the rains come, when there will be plentiful food for their babies. Just my thinking.
