Nesting

Post by Lauravdm » Mon Sep 27, 2010 7:36 am

Hey all

I am asking more and more questions, My zebra pair are very happy and will be even more probably when I send my husbands budgies back  But when do they go into the nests, is it only when they start wanting to lay eggs, or is it as soon as they find them?
And where should I put the nesting materials, in the nest box, on top of the lid or is on the ground fine?
I am so new at this I have no idea what to do, but I just love my birds.... Especially their gorgeous chittering, they just don't stop

When zebras have a nest they will use it for sleeping, resting and nesting :D I usually poke my nesting materials through the bars for them to grab what they want. They will usuall.y end up having it everywhere and in a day or two the nest will be overflowing.

I use holders that clip onto the side of the cage to hold the material, i also add some shreded paper which i put in the cage,my Zebras seem to love it, Zebras will pair up and spend a lot of time in the nest,
To many pets to list :)

The finches are much happier now the budgies are gone....
though they have decided to sleep in their food bowl  but my husband got me a hanging bird feeder for them so I will just put the nesting stuff into the food bowl and let them do what they want with it

Is the food bowl big enough for them to have babys in if not i would try putting some nesting material in a nest and put some more nesting material on the floor so they can build there nest like they want

Been watching them all morning and they have moved into one of the nest boxes and have taken alot of the nesting materials that I poked thru the cage wire!!! It is so fascinating to watch them
