Society chicks - all banded (updated 10/15)
I let my pair of Societies have their own clutch this time round and they have 6 babies! I finally got the last two banded tonight. They are all looking great but boy oh boy does that nest box get 'dirty' fast with six of them in there!
I've already changed it out once. I'll have to do it again before they fledge.

Such little cuties Liz
I think societies are the only birds that don't clean their own nests

With so many babies and as much as they are normally fed with their attentive parents they are veritable poop factories -- can't blame the parents for avoiding some of that mess.
Good looking babies!!

Thanks Janine and Anna - It almost seems that way but believe it or not Parrot Finches (at least the Blue-faced ones) are much worse!! I had 3 in a nest and I had to clean it out almost every 2-3 days!!! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Nothing cuter than a bunch of naked babies.

They are adorable Liz! I think that society finches are the absolute sweetest of all finches. (although they are the nastiest!)

"Nastiest" = dirtiest? Not even close to Blue-faced Parrot Finch chicks.dfcauley wrote:They are adorable Liz! I think that society finches are the absolute sweetest of all finches. (although they are the nastiest!)

Thanks Jacqui.
The one at the very bottom is intriguing to me as it appears it may have light brown feathers in the middle of its back. It's parents are both pied chocolate and the mother is crested. No visible fawn but perhaps one of them is split to fawn. If I'm seeing right - this will be the first chick from this pair to have some visible fawn feathers.
