Mother knows best

Post by nicky » Sun Oct 10, 2010 2:58 pm

I watched this redpoll hen do this for almost an hour, during one of our very rare hot days this summer, though i think the young were a bit big to fit under her :D :D

i used to blow air on my zeebra finch hen when she had eggs and was in the nest when it was hot. She loved it and would always hold her feathers up when I did it. Cool Pictures you have here

Cute! What is a red poll? (Family/genus?)
Anna

Lots of Red Throat Parrot Finches, Forbes, Gouldians, BCCB's, RCCB's, Owls, Societies, and BB Fires. Plus, one wonderful 15 year old son, one wonderful husband and two rotten-to-the-core Border Terriers.

Ok Candace, if that came off the top of your head you are really freaking me out!

I was just curious because I haven't heard of them within the finch community --

I'll look them up on the net just to find out more out of curiosity.

Thank you!!
Anna

 One of my pen pal buddies breeds these so I am familiar with them. They are kept in other countries but not here in the states. Like many of the cardinals, the red cardinal is a very popular aviary bird in other countries but is illegal to keep her because they are native :D

I accidentally caught a cardinal about a month ago (and let it go of course). It was VERY fiesty! They are pretty though.

Very nice tan-brownish setting you given to them that merged with their feather colors.
I believed this helps to bring out her very natural/mother instinct boldly.
Serinus Atrogularis & Serinus Mennelli & Forpus Coelestis.

Wish List: Psittinus cyanurus.

Great photo! Perhaps you can lay some more cedar branches on top of the aviary to shield them from the sun on the hottest days.
