Funky colored wings NEW PICS

Post by CandoAviary » Thu Oct 14, 2010 8:59 pm

This is a normal red head green that is about 8 months old. His wings are really different. I have seen them called yellow wing, bronze wing, etc. Opinions please.

I wonder if he just hasn't molted out his primary flight feathers?
What does it look like if you spread the feathers out? I wonder if they would look almost clearwing/yellow but on a normal?
I'm intrigued.. can you get a photo of the flight feathers spread out?

I love when they give you something unique to look at - very pretty. :)

I had a blue that had brown tips too instead of blue - very different...

That is pretty Candace :)

I will have to look for mine and take pictures - I'm pretty sure I have one or two with something like that on the green body.

Very cool. That gouldian seems really large to me too, you must have some fantastic breeding stock.

This male is a third generation and I had set him aside even before he was finished coloring out. I liked his size and conformation especially since he is only about 8 months old, born in March 2010. Also the family band color...yellow/red was the son of the sister to my beloved 'blue head' that passed. So I thought I would keep a few from that side for future breeding.
Then the wings turned out like this so he'll be kept just to see what happens with his adult molt.

I wonder if this is a precursor to clear wing?
I'd be curious to see if you pair him to a yellow hen if you get Clear-Wing Dilute males at all..

I still think these things are modifications which either means they aren't heritable (random flukes, or just a random excess deposition of Lutein there that will molt out normal next year) or the genetics behind it isn't simple or understood to be able to say "it's sex linked recessive" or what have you.

Thanks Tiffany, I actually have 2 hens I have considered. Both are yellow and not split to anything. So we will see. They are still all a little young to breed yet, maybe in another month.
I will see what he does with his next moult.

Cool 8) I just may have to cave in and ship some to you and you some to me :D

It may be that they will molt out but then again maybe not. I will definately reserve some of my male's offspring once I get him set up....Please don't sell all of her babies. It may be the carrot that gets me to ship
