You may want to get some fake ivy or fake ferns and put them on the floor for the button quail to hide under. Button quail don't like wide open spaces, they are originally from grasslands where they can hide between tall grass and leaves and bushes.
the love birds will be in the cages beside the aviary but right now 2 of my 3 pairs are sitting on eggs and im not taking chances these are my first time breeding lovebirds so but the budgies are in there with the finches and dont bother them at all so thats good and i dont know what kinds of finches to get now when you have a guy like pony tail joe go to a bird mart its hard to make your mind upB CAMP wrote:What kind of finches do you plan on keeping in there together ? Have you met Ponytail Joe in person? I got some Strawberries flown in to Toronto from him early this year. Just curious about your opinion of him.Carpenter wrote:the love birds will be in the cages beside the aviary but right now 2 of my 3 pairs are sitting on eggs and im not taking chances these are my first time breeding lovebirds so but the budgies are in there with the finches and dont bother them at all so thats good and i dont know what kinds of finches to get now when you have a guy like pony tail joe go to a bird mart its hard to make your mind upB CAMP wrote:What kind of finches do you plan on keeping in there together ? thanks for the tip! ive got breeding cages im gonna use to i can select mates so theres no inbreeding and i dont have to worrie about another pair or zebras ive had a problem with them stealing nesting material and breaking eggs so in the aviary there will be no nests.Ursula wrote:Wait until you see the button quail babies! About the budgies and finches: Not sure if you saw my post about one of my budgie females killing my gouldian babies... I keep budgies and finches successfully together for over 3 years now, in a walk-in aviary. I never had problems, and I had both waxbill and budgie offspring. However, the budgie female was still broody and the gouldian babies are so loud, that must have set her off and made her jealous. She killed one and insured the other 2 and they died within a day. So if you want gouldians be aware that you should NOT breed them with the budgies in there. As long as you have enough hiding places breeding waxbills and/or budgies shouldn't be a problem at all.
I won't let my gouldians breed for now. I am thinking about a separate aviary for the budgies, but I really don't have the room and without the babies everybody gets along just fine.
