Blackthroat Finch.
Ok. This is the second time posting this question as the first time it disappeared somehow. Any of you familiar with Blackthroat finches and are they available in canada ? They look like Gray Singers and they have a very nice song ?

Thanks anyway, lovemyfinch. Thanks for the link Johnboy but I saw those clips on youtube yesterday and that's why I'm asking here. I liked the song of the Blackthroats and I was wondering if they were available here because I'd really like to get one. It looks like they're not though.

Re: Blackthroat Finch.
I have been keeping them for about a year. I have read about green/grey singer and from my exprience Blackthroats' breeding/diet are very simlilar except BT are more aggressive. If you need any further info, please feel free to let me know. I lived in Singapore though.
Serinus Atrogularis & Serinus Mennelli & Forpus Coelestis.

thanks, Grassland. I think they're related and they look kinda similar. I don't think they're available in N. America. The clips on youtube did appear to be from Asia.

I haven't heard of them but I'd be surprised if Ponytail Joe couldn't get any for you. Very pretty song!

Wow ! You know about Ponytail Joe and you're in Ontario! I don't think he would have them. I've never seen them listed in his ad and he's never brought any to a bird mart.L in Ontario wrote:I haven't heard of them but I'd be surprised if Ponytail Joe couldn't get any for you. Very pretty song!

Yes, I've had him ship Strawberries to me here. If you ask him, perhaps he could search out some suppliers from overseas. If you don't ask him - he won't know you're looking for these. Just a thought.solo_birdlover wrote:Wow ! You know about Ponytail Joe and you're in Ontario! I don't think he would have them. I might try calling him. I've never been able to talk to him on the phone. It's like he never answers. Thanks.

Re: Blackthroat Finch.
now I keep a pair of blackthroat (serinus atrogularis) and grey singer (serinus leucopygius). I try to breed them.
in fact, their presence in Indonesia mostly imported from the Netherlands or other European countries despite originally came from Africa. Some of those in Indonesia are the result multiplied by a local bird breeder and the circulation is very rarely at the same time they're expensive ....
yes...BT has very pretty song
