My Purple Grenadiers - New Pair + Cherries
I tried to get some pictures today, and these guys are not cooperating! I have dozens of shots of empty perches. I need to build a photo box. But in the meantime, these are my Grens. The second pair I just got yesterday. The hen of this pair was in with another hen, and she is pretty plucked around the head. The male of the first pair is going thru a molt and looks pretty ratty, plus he hides in the plastic plant everytime I point the camera in his direction, or I get just a blur. Anyway, here they are:

Oh boy!! Beautiful birds

By the way. I was just wondering how "grenadier" is pronounced? Is it gren-a-day, gren-a-deer, or ?

Pretty, pretty purples!
Looking forward to seeing what happens with them as their story progresses... hopefully lots of beautiful babies.

So cool. Thanks for posting these pics! So now you have two pairs of PG's right? Can't wait to hear how they do.
I struggled with the name a bit too, I kept saying gren-ay-dee-er.

Wonderful. I cannot even see where you mention the hen was plucked.
LOL the name thing is always funny.
I say Gren but it comes out more like Grin-a-dee-er....

Thanks Misty. Knowing how to pronounce new words is a problem when your only contact with them is in written form.MLaRue wrote:Gren a deersierranomad wrote:Oh boy!! Beautiful birds![]()

Re: My Purple Grenadiers
Actually, I have three pairs now, as Misty is holding a pair for me. And what is great is that all three pairs came from different sources, so should be unrelated bloodlines. I am so excited to start working with this species, as they are in the same family with the Cordon Bleus. The biggest problem with them is that they need a lot more space, so that is what I will be working on for them. For now, they will be in the same cage as Misty has, the 40x20x20. Eventually, I plan for each pair to have their own private walk-in flight, no other birds in with them.Domenic wrote:So cool. Thanks for posting these pics! So now you have two pairs of PG's right? That is a wonderful plan with the flights
I sure hope you have much success with these birds as they are some of the most stunning finches in the world
