Update on keeping two male cordon bleus together

Post by star » Wed Nov 03, 2010 3:49 pm

A while back I asked opinions of other forum members as to whether or not I could keep two CB males together with no female CBs.

Well I decided to try it. I got a BCCB male and a BBCB male. It's been a month now and so far, so good, they never even go near one another. They both at different times will cuddle and preen with one of my male owls, and also with one of the male gold breasts. They seem happy, and they are so beautiful! They are also very active. I love them!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if maybe being different sub species keeps them from fighting.

I was going to get two BCCBs, but then I saw the BB ones and had to get one of each.

Also I keep them in an 8 ft L aviary with a mix of other finches.

I think the large cage plus no CB hens keep them from fighting - there's nothing for them to fight about.

Glad to hear it's working out and that you are pleased with them!

I agree, it's the space and no hens that keeps the fighting down. With an 8' aviary, there is plenty of room for both of them. I don't think the fact that they are two different species of Cordon Bleus has anything to do with it. If you put the two in a small cage, they would probably go at it.

I'm also glad it works out. =D>

And I agree: No girls, no fight! (The same applies to my trio of button quail males...)
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.
