Congrats on the newbies John. I saw the blue head too, but thought it might have been a camera trick.

Candace, you are crazy for holding that gouldian like that outside.  Weren't you scared he would make a run for it?
In the picture yours looks to have a good bit of blue overcast, to the cheeks also. Do you know how old he is? Maybe we could swap bloodlines someday if he does have the blue and if you are interested in trying to establish this blue headed gouldian.
Candace he was born on 3/20/10. I was planning on breeding him to the Dilute BH yellowback. What do you think? Emily told me she was born this year.

Actually on the hens you simply call them BH yellow backs (hens are always single factor...never double) Males when single factor with a purple chest are called dilute. (males with lilac or white chest are called single factor yellows) A double factor will be a bright yellow male no matter what color his breast is. But I know the hen you are talking about. That is exactly what I bred my boy to. With that pairing you can get lots of possibilities, Double factor yellow male, single factor yellow males and females, aka male dilutes, and green hens. I think that is a great pairing.
I have one yellow hen and a dilute.... probably a BH. He was born from a RH PB GB dad and a BH PB YB hen. All of his sisters are RH PB GB and I am pairing them with dilutes and Yellow backs.

Yours is only 8 months old and I have found with this one line of mine that they get bluer with age. I have a different line of BH dilutes that never show any blue...they are a darker charcoal grey where the ones that show more blue are a light silver grey.

John, wow -- you really got some lovely birds at the fair.

Candace, I can't get over those pictures -- startlingly appealing and beautiful as was your boy gouldian. Hopefully you'll find you have a few more like him...!

Dominic... I adressed your question on this old post about "Slater" and his passing. I didn't want to totally overtake Johnboy's post. Sorry John.
