Bought another pair of Seedcrackers today

Post by JohnBoy » Sun Nov 14, 2010 9:10 pm

Jan had a a pair of Seedcrackers at the show. Hers had lots of brown in them. It is still unknown to me if these are females or a just young birds that have not come into color yet. They are different from mine. Much more brown on the chest and sides & less red intense color. Jan feels they are young birds and that they are a pair because one seems to be getting more red in the front than the other. Also it is believed by the dealer I bought the first pair from that they are a pair. She can see differences in them that I can't.
Anyway I thought about the dang birds all night and morning and I just could not stand it anymore so I grabbed my credit card and got in my car and drove back to the fair. I heckled about the price cause I did not want to spend $300 and was hoping to get them for $250. Anyway she met me half way and sold them to me for $275. SW sells them for $250 but with the shipping it would have come to $290. So I was OK with that. And I did get to see these before I bought them.
So here are some pictures of the difference in the colors. I hope out of the 4 birds I have a pair cause that is $525 I have invested in them not counting the $40 shipping for the first pair.
They got a little raggy on the way home from being in the small holding cage they were in.

I had them for 4-5 months & that was the coloring they had at that time.. The pair I have set-up in a large flight with my Diamond Sparrows look just like these.. BTW they seem to be getting along with them & the Diamond Sparrows have built a nest and I think she is on eggs (sitting really hard)

Thats great Jan, Good luck with the Diamond's. So at least I know now that I have at least one pair. I am going to build them their own aviary in the Spring.
