Black head ytb is a genetically orange headed bird but cannot express the collor because you have to have red to be able to. Since the bird is black you will see no yellow.(orange)

An yellow/ black is an orange headed bird that carries the black gene.

Or a Black/Yellow (or Orange) is a black headed bird that is only carrying a single orange head color gene ;)

Thanks - I don't know why I can't get through this.

Can you tell the different between the two or are they visually identical?

You mean the difference between BH YTB and BH/OH? The difference is that YTB has the yellow tipped beak and a split for OH does not.. but there is no way to tell visually if a black head bird is split for orange head.

OMG you're kidding me! Well thank you - I just learned something. I thought BH-O had the orange tipped beaks too! Damn! But it makes sense since split to blue don't have blue tipped beaks. THANK you Tiffany! =D>

But so many of the split to blue green birds have the blue coloring across their shoulder area so not always hidden

Of all the hundreds of birds I've had over the years I've been breeding, I've never been able to see any difference enough to say: that green Guoldian is a split to blue. Even when I know they are split. :|
