Found em!

Post by salix » Sun Nov 21, 2010 10:03 pm

Well, I made my first post ever on this board a few weeks ago, saying that I wanted to find a pair of gouldians.

Someone suggested going to the Bird Mart in San Jose. We made the three hour drive and we found the ones we wanted.

We got a RH/PB/GB male and a RH/WB/GB female.

Umm, no one can accuse me of not being OCD. We also came home with -
a pair of owl finches
a pair of black-bellied fire finches
a pair gold-breasted waxbills
a pair of goldfinches
and a pair of green singing finches

Add to that another double flight cage so we would have room for everyone and the ability to split up the temperaments.

When I was a teenager (many years ago), I used to breed zebra finches (probably like many people here). This is my first foray back into birds.

We got home about five hours ago, everyone is settled in, fed, watered, stared at   and tucked in for the night!

:D

Wow! That's a lot of birds. Enjoy them. You have some really great species there. Please post pics when you get a chance.

Boy, I'll say you cleaned up. I am sooo dangerous when I go to a bird fair. I say to myself just one pair of Goulds. I walk out with two pair of Goulds, a pair of crimson seedcrackers and a pair of chestnut breasted seedeaters. And when I get home I ask myself Are you nuts? where do you think you are going to put these? Therefore another expense. More cages. #-o

Hi Deb
When were you there?
I was there a bit after 9am, although it took over 1/2 hr to get thru the ticket line and into the door.

I picked up a couple BB gouldians, and thinking about it later I should have picked up a RH-WB-YB hen also. But I was too fixated on the blues. I need to expand my line of RH-WB-YB, but unfortunately I am easily distracted.

This show only had one seed vendor, usually there are more. I was looking for gouldian seed mix, and he did not have any.

The Pleasanton show on Feb 6, 2011 is BIGGER and with a lot more vendor. So save your pennies for that one.

Thanks everyone, I'm so happy with them. Everyone seems to have settled in beautifully.

I do have a tendency to jump right in. My main animal hobby (beside my three border collies and one great dane) is raising poison dart frogs. I've been in that hobby for around three years now. I have about 200 frogs in 65+ vivariums, plus another couple of hundred tadpoles.

Of course my frog hobby means I have an unlimited supply of fruit flies for the birds!

Hi Gary, we were probably in line behind you. We arrived just a little after 9:30, so we were in that line too. We're supposed to be driving home from vacation that weekend in February. Of course, I suppose we could come home a day early

I love dart frogs. I don't have any yet, but I hope to get some in the future. I don't want to go crazy, maybe just a small group for me. I've always liked frogs, but I really started wanting them when I raised some tadpoles I found in the wild. So cool. They turned out to be red spotted toads, but it was very fun raising them.

Johnboy on this forum used to breed darts and mantellas, but was wiped clean due to Katrina. He started over with finches, but I've been asking him questions about them for some time now.

I would love to see pics of your frogs too! :D

Congrats =D>
That's what I did. I had some Zebs and societies when I was a kid. Then when I got older and got my own place, WHAM! I got the finch itch again. Now I have a bunch and still never seem satisfied. I always want new colors and more birds. But I am sensible enough to know my limits... for now... until we get a bigger house  My hubby said when we move I can have my own personal bird room instead of sharing the office =D>

Congrats :)

Once you have that many it is very easy to get one more and then one more

But then with that many frogs you know exactly where I'm coming from lol

Welcome!
