New With Questions

Hello!

I'm new to the forum but not to owning birds. In the past I had a pair of Zebra Finches, a couple Parakeets and a Tiel ^.^ Anyway, today we are picking up a pair of Society Finches and their one baby who isnt feeding on its own yet. We found them on craigslist from a lady who cannot properly care for them anymore due to never being home. They will mostly be my mothers birds but I am going to help her.

I've heard in the past having groups of three finches isnt good (even if they are relaited, you should have even numbers). Is that information correct? If so what should I do?

Also, my Zebra Finches always had a nest even though I didn't care about breeding. I felt bad for them not having a nest, silly I know.

Now I'm starting to think its worst to give them a nest and have them lay eggs just to take them away. Correct?

You can keep the three society finches in a cage together and they'll live happily as long as you provide a big enough cage and a good healthy diet. Societies will breed very easily, so although they love sleeping in nest, I would not provide them with one if you don't want more babies.

i agree with all that emily says,but you could provide a nest for the societies as they love to nest together as long as you throw any eggs awy as soon as they appear

Societies are one of the few species which will live happily in a trio. Three birds in a cage usually results in two buddies picking on the odd one. I don't think you always have to have even numbers of birds, just that three is usually the worst number you can have (again, except for Societies).
