Finches fly back into their cages?

Post by H2015 » Thu Oct 11, 2007 11:17 am

I have a small indoor aviary and yesterday I had to take out one of the birds to move into a small hospital cage, as I was trying to capture it two birds flew out.

At first I freaked out but seconds later they flew back and sat on top of the aviary, I opened the door and they easily flew back through it.

Was that by coincidence or do birds get used to their cage and fly back in if they ever get out?

I think it just depends. Is your door on the aviary big? Finches know where their food and water is, and I'm sure they flew back because they know that.

i think that they must have been thirsty and hungry after there little fly about and didnt even realise that they where flying back into a cage they where just flying back to where thier seed and water is....that comes from trust of the owner..if your birds will bathe in front of you that is also trust as a lot of predators catch birds just after they have thier bath ..as this is when they are most vulnerable

Well today while cleaning another one flew out and once again took a U turn and came back to sit on the cage.

Perhaps they come back because the rest of the birds are in there and they feel safer close by?

And btw, they never took a bath in front of me but thanks for the info, I didn't know about that!

My cage is small. Thants why I'm getting a new one.

But... all three of my birds uhen let free fly stay on top of the cage. And a lot of times I have to gt them out of the cage becasue they actually prefer to be in therir tiny cage.
