I dont know how everybody enjoy a bird's song, but me, everytime I listen to my strawberries, I found a piece of me, see a whole new story that the bird wanna tell everybody with his son: how many years he has been living, how many time he escaped from a predator, how many forest or places has he been to...not just sound and melodies, and that, is something we can never hear, or feel from a bird who has been bred in captivity...:)
What a wonderful way to describe the beauty of a birds song!!!
Have Gouldians and societies and fledglings of all of the above!!

So I just had to revive this post. My green singer just started singing....Finally. Ah spring is in the air.....I actually went to check and see who had opened which window and check the birds outside. Nope.....it was my little sunshine the 2nd, singing and calling whilst playing in the nest. My imagination, or do they sound an awful lot like the American Goldfinch? Image

I have been thinking about adding a pair of strawberry finches to my mixed collection. I actually didn’t realise they sang so well until recently.

3 weeks ago, I finally got pair and the male is beginning to collect nesting material BUT I still haven’t heard him sing. How long do you think it will take him to feel more settled and start singing?

I think it depends on the bird itself. Months ago I brought home some strawberries, all of them were wild caught, but the day after that, two of the 3 males started to sing. :)
2 vietnamese greenfinches, 2 gouldians, 2 javas, 5 strawberries. and still try to have more :D

Thank you.

By the way, I LOVED your set up and photos and your strawberry finches are amazing.

I believe they are Amandava Punicea, which are smaller than the ones kept in Europe and America but more brightly coloured and A LOT more beautiful.

I'm very jealous

European Goldfinch HANDS DOWN!
Way better than the Strawberry Finch!
I own both a European Goldfinch, and a Strawberry Finch. European wins any day!
Don't get me wrong though the Strawberry Finch has a great song. but the European Goldfinch wins!!!

Listen to the entire song though.
It sounds better in person.
