Fairest Finch Aviary

Post by mtsimktg » Mon Dec 27, 2010 3:35 pm

Hello,

I am new to the forums and am interested in getting started with breeding finches. I have experience breeding other animals and birds so know what I am getting into.

A while ago on the old fairest finches website they had pictures of their aviary and was wondering by any chance if someone had pictures of it because I am interested in building something like that on top of our barn.

Thanks for your time and help!

Have you tried contacting Michele directly? I'm sure she would share the pictures with you.

My aviary is similar - we used a few different materials but the idea is the same. Also Tiffany with Gouldians Galore has some pictures on her website that might be helpful.

I am not sure what her email address is, would you happen to have it? I am thinking of building my aviary on top of my horse barn like this: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=9 ... 5167395111.

I am wondering if I should put the dormers on each side though. I want bigger 8X8 pens on the walls and cages in the middle. Do you think it would be to hard to build a cage around the dormers?'

Thanks

I have contacted her for you - not sure I still have a current email address?

I asked my husband (builder) about your questions and he more or less said it would depend on how big you want the dormers - if it is the whole wall or just a few small individual ones.

BTW - that barn is gorgeous! :D

I agree, beautiful barn and the landscaping is breathtaking. I love the cherry blossums? What a beautiful place to start a ride :D

Good luck on your aviaries :D

Thanks for the help. I currently have 1 acre touching my parents and am deciding if I should keep it and build a small place for our horses and build a barn with aviary up top. The barn would be just like that just 12 feet shorter. There is an additional 3.5 acres of pasture too in addition to my lot.

Its small but it could be a good start and if I dont like it I can sell it and buy something bigger. We had 40 acres but its up for sale and am only keeping 10 between our whole family.

We live in Western Washington so I doubt the birds could be kept outside. I would like to build a gazebo for some but I fear it can get to cold even if I put a thick plastic cover around the netting.

Here is something I am looking to build. The left is the bottom floor and the top would be the aviary. There would be smaller breeding cages in the middle and then colony pens on the outside. I was thinking that I could do the dormers like in the picture posted and just put up a shade cloth.
