colorful clutch

Post by betchacanthavejust1 » Thu Jan 06, 2011 4:20 pm

Well, I was 3/4 correct about the color of these babies I first posted under "Merry Christmas..and a Happy New Year"(page 2)....
Dad is a BH PB/WB(?) Blue & mom is OH PB/WB YB/BB..
I thought for sure I had 2 dilutes, a silver and a blue. Today I family banded them and took a photo. It is now very clear what their colors are. According to the genetic forecaster the green (clearly not a dilute like I thought) & the blue are BH females. The dilute, of course is a male as well as the silver & it says they will be RH/BH/YH.. (cool....3 in 1) Now, I'll have to wait to see what 3 of the 4 breast colors end up being.

I hope everyone is having a Good New Year so far...

I'll bet you the "silver" is a White Breast otherwise it would be a "pastel" (visually blue) AKA SFYellowBlue

This is Pair #2's clutch, 3 hatched 12/31 the 4th on 1/1...another colorful clutch. Still not old enough to nfss band. A few more days...
Mom is OH PB/WB GB/BB dad is RH/BH LB/WB sf YB/BB
My first guess.. yellow, dilute, blue, silver... :?: 3 days later I'm not so sure... I guess they'll have to get bigger for me to tell this time...
Since the possiblilties are vast, I'm gonna have to wait and see on this group.. #-o

What do u all think?

Do they have any feathers yet?

When I put the family bands on, days before they fledge, that's when I'm most positive on body color. Before that, I'm still learning. This is my second season of breeding and I enjoy guessing and taking notes as to why I think the colors I think.
I also need the camera to help me. I really can't tell "squat" with my naked eyes. I've got the picture taking down now so all the photo's come out very clear. Without the camera, I'd be lost. (yeah, I need glasses to see close up)

My favorite kind of clutches :) Congrat's! I had a very similar clutch to your first one, except instead of a green dilute I got a SF yellow. That was because both parents are WB.

I'm going to take a guess with your second clutch and say you might have a SF yellow WB instead of a green dilute. Can't wait to see them as they grow :) I wonder if your other yellow baby is a hen or a DF yellow male. The father is gorgeous btw!

Wasn't that the Dream Team??? I didn't want to take your spot light on that title...LOVED IT... LOL.. and immediately thought of them when I saw mine.... then to get another clutch very similar.. well, that was a bonus.
Again, I can't take credit for this LB Yellow male either... I bought him from Tiffany last year to breed to one of my own split babies... with the hopes of producing pastels.. & getting into LB's into the mix... Both hens (the YB & this GB) are sisters, from different clutches (same parents YB dad & BB mom) thou.

Yes, my dream team, I think any clutch like that is a dream :) This clutch has been my favorite to date. These babies are just gorgeous and such nice sizes already. A 2nd batch is due anytime now [-o<

I wish we lived a bit closer :) I'd love to incorporate some LB's. Because the father is a LB does that mean you will have LB and WB? does the purple from the hen cancel out??

no, it's doesn't cancel out the PB..but yes, LB split to WB & WB are possible.

PB is dominant over both, LB and WB, so

in this case... He is LB/WB ...she is PB/WB.... so....

PB/WB and PB/LB are possible.. but not a straight PB... the offspring WILL be spit to one or the other...

LB split to WB because Lilac is dominate over White and both birds are split to white..
WB because both birds are split to WB....(double dose of white)....

1 PB/WB +1 LB/WB= any of the following possiblities.... WB, LB/WB, PB/LB or PB/WB (but won't know which the PB is split to visually).

if she was PB only, not split to WB it would be...(1 LB/WB + 1 PB = 1 of each color...) so... PB being dominant to both LB and WB...would take over.... and there would be no possibility of getting WB or LB only PB split to either WB or to LB... but again, you wouldn't be able to tell which visually.
But the offspring would not be just PB, because the male isn't PB..

If he was LB only and she was PB/WB it would be... (1 LB+ 1 PB/WB) = PB/LB and LB/WB .. The WB would only show up split to lilac because Lilac is dominant to White but recessive to Purple..

If neither were split to WB it would be... (1 LB + 1 PB = PB/LB

Does this make sense to you. It's the only way I can describe it.

Can anyone else explain it better? I understand it but have a hard time explaining it.. Any Teachers out there..????? help

I think so too! I can actually understand :) You could possibly get all the breast colors from one pair, that's awesome!! I knew PB was dominant, but wasn't sure how it worked when just the hen had it. Thanks for explaining!

You definetly have a very colorful clutch there :)
