Sorry Evran, I don't have owls yet
so am unable to help you. If I am not mistaken though, most have the best luck with ordinary hooded wicker nests.

Re: What kind of nest for owls?
Been a while since I've had owls but I just used the wooden box with a hole in it that I use for the gouldians.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Re: What kind of nest for owls?
None of my owls have actually produced young, but they have done a lot of building and sitting.
All of them have preferred nests built with grass and coco fibre and when they build their own in the shrubbery it look like the little wicker baskets. I guess you need to offer them a few choices to begin with and see which interests them. I don't think they are too fussy.

Re: What kind of nest for owls?
May I make a suggestion??-
Why don't you try going to the Search Tab at the top of the screen here and type in owl and nest. I just bought some owls but I haven't tried to breed them yet because all my birds are resting. I am thinking to use just the regular finch nests (the bamboo type you can buy anywhere).
But... most small finches -- provided a place (like fake greenery) and the materials (sisal, grass, coco fiber, whatever) will create their own nest if they don't like what you have.
I am betting they would use a regular finch nest but the search may help you find out --

Re: What kind of nest for owls?
I only had one kind of nestbox for my Owls and they always used it. Here is a photo of it. I liked it because I could sterilize it and reused it.
The only problem I had with this nest was one time the female laid eggs in two different areas of the nest...one clutch towards the back and one towards the front....so neither got incubated long enough because she kept switching. I think this happened partially because it was such a large nestbox plus I didn't provide enough nesting material in there so it was packed too loosely. The next time I put more in there and preformed a 'hole' in the material and that worked better. Always something to learn!

Re: What kind of nest for owls?
I asked my friends breeding Owls, they advised me to use bamboo nest.I wanted to ask you all guys because i think that you are very experinced and many of you have many birds and you are always breeding them.I think i will try wicker nest first. If they don't like it,i will try nestbox.I will share their photos and maybe their chicks
Meanwhile i don't know why,but you all are so cute people and whenever i ask something, you answer me willingly. So,i think that you all are so sincere.
Thank you

Thank you![]()

The Bicheno will nest in more or less anything...but I prefer the wooden nest box to anything else from the point of view of access to chicks and eggs if problems occur.
Hey Immortal...like the name...but don't cross busy streets and put it to the test...

Paul, now you have piqued my curiosity -- how come you can't be 'cute' like us colonials?
I personally think you are VERY cute and love all your anglo humor and posts!
Those wooden boxes are not too large for bichenos?
