Bird netting hung in front of the door would work too.

It's always very exciting to hear of another finch enthusiast in Vegas! You have a very nice aviary, and beautiful birds too. Where in the world did you run into a pair of strawberries around here though? Any luck breeding them?

Woohoo, someone else with Strawberries! If you can breed them, let me know, we can swap bloodlines if you are interested.

Re: my aviary....
Hi, Domenic. Yes it is hard to find majority of the finch species here the sin city. I came across this one pair in Craigslist bay area, ca. I was not ready for them...financially or experience wise, but have been reading about them alot on the forum I couldn't afford to see them disappear for good. I have my brother who lives close by picked them up for me.
Sally, my thought exactly. But with me knowing so little just yet about breeding finches in general let alone strawberries, it might be awhile. I'll be sure to ask questions about them. In the mean time I just love them and their quirky songs and personalities.

If you don't mind me asking, did you get those Strawberries from an ad that had something like 6 pairs for sale? If so, you may have gotten a good breeding pair, and it would be worth it to give them a nest and nesting materials once it warms up. I would think they would breed more readily in a nice big aviary like you have than the cages I use for breeding.

Sally, i remember which ad you're talking about. The ad that sells them for like $365/pr. No I got these guys about a week before the ad came out. The owner was an elderly lady who said she's overcrowding her small flight and decided to concentrate on breeding cordons and gold breasted instead. We shot each other emails... she seemed nice. Besides she only wanted $150 for the pair
and I wasn't looking for a good breeders or anything...just to have them. Having said that, I do provide them the opportunities, but the female has not interest yet.

Re: my aviary....
try using two curtains (shower) one on either side and overlap the the center where they meet. This way when you need to go in you can wrap/cloe it around the back of you so no one can slip through the area you are pulling aside to get into the aviary.
Another idea is to use mosquito netting, one section on either side, attach the sides and top to the aviary entrance, attach wide shoe laces down each panel where they meet at the opening so you can kind of coccon yourself in before opening the door. (places like Pier 1 and Bed Bath and Beyond sell it already on a frame, with a little reworking you can have a decorative and safe addition to the doorway. You can alo pull it to one side and pull it around you and fasten it to the other ide of the door way....the framing will allow you to have room to stand and move without getting tangled in it.
