The little guy definately has some behavior issues, the previous owner let him have free run of the house and he was allowed to fly and follow her. He is having a horrible time screaming when I leave the room or get to far from the cage and it gets louder and more vocal if I go out the patio door to take the dogs out, he can be heard across the yard!
My friend (the breeder) and I discussed it and he was on the phone as I moved about the house/out onto the patio...the screeching was less than pleasing. The little bird must have been spoiled and let to have his way with some strong attachments to the previous owner.
My friend and I decided that it was best for him to come back to the aviary and redirect his attention off a person (the behavior would have gotten worse and would have continued since he was of breeding age and viewed me as a mate (I resemble the other owner)). We decided to give him a girlfriend and allow him to be a fellow companion within the aviary of his own kind. He will live out his life there. I took him back this morning and he immediately joined in with the other linnies...happy as can be, ignored me and went right to eating.
They are very smart and lovely birds, perhaps someday I can get another one and handfeed it out and allow it to be handled by everyone in the house so it does not bond with just one person. Lucy, our lovebird was brought up that way and goes to everyone and does not favor me.
