Hecks Long Tail Grass Finch

Post by BigBear0007 » Sat Jan 22, 2011 10:12 am

Here is my new pair I picked up last night from a friend.
Only $80.00 CND for the pair.
The male has a canary like song but not as loud.
Lovely little birds.

They like to make their own nest and love to use coconut fibres to make it.

I put in the nest basket and they took to it like ducks to water.
The hen may already have eggs in her ready to lay, because she went into that nest
and started to build like she was just waiting for a place.
I will get some cocoanut fibre for them also.
Fingers crossed!!

Longtails, along with a number of other Australian species, like to have a nest to roost in. Hopefully they are building a nest to breed in, but unfortunately we can't be sure of that untill eggs appear. :(

This morning I moved the cage to clean under it.
I had the cage 10 inches from my face, and the male was singing away!

Great price for a pair of Shaftails, Jerry. They look terrific too! Congrats on your new birds AND it's very nice to see and know your name too. =D>
