Re: How to preserve EGG food..?
I mix my hardboiled (and cooled) eggs including the shell with soaked seed and more as noted below and then freeze until needed.
Fill 1/2 a pitcher with soak seed, cover with water and add about 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar. Soak for 12 - 24 hours. Rinse and then drain really well in a sieve (can let stand overnight in a towel to drain further). Mix with the processed hardboiled eggs that I cooked for 15 minutes the day before and put in the fridge to cool. Add dry eggfood (Orlux Tropical Finch), 1 tsp CLO, 1 tsp WGO. Mix really well and then fill sandwich ZipLok bags and freeze until I needed. Take one baggie out of the freezer and it's ready for the finches immediately. It doesn't freeze like ice - you can immediately crumble it into the finch dishes and serve.

I put the dishes in their cages at ~5:15am each morning and remove (or refresh them if they are breeding) at ~4:30pm. HTHadnan wrote:Great idea.

Hi Liz....That sounds like a great way to prepare it.....How many eggs do you use?....Do you have an actual recipe for the amounts of the other added items?.....How many birds are you feeding?.....How much does each breeding pair consume daily?.....So many questions...So little time....lol....Thanks for the great info!!

I have to leave work now to head home (finally). I'll answer then or you can do a search for eggfood and put my name in as the 'author' - you'll see a number of posts.
I'll be back on here later this evening.
