Male or Female????

Post by Chainey » Mon Oct 22, 2007 8:34 pm

I'm SO glad I have found this informative forum!! I'm new to finches, in fact I never really wanted them but was in a pet shop and just couldnt walk away from one that had something wrapt around its claw/leg...I just had to rescue it!!....I now have 2 & enjoying them. (By the way, went to the vet who removed the cotton wool and poor thing has lost most of its lower leg but getting around just fine and VERY happy) but....this bird is a pure white zebra finch, no markings at all, doesnt sing, actually just gives a squeak so I'm guessing female??? I've called this one 'Squeak'...so Squeak also at times is making the funny little mating noise and shaking its tail....I've been told definately female??? The other zebra finch is white with grey markings but only has a small patch of peach on 'one' cheek, definately sings!....(named this one 'Sqwark' very appropriate!) and I have been told this one is male...BUT....Sqwark also makes the little mating noise and shakes its tail.....male or female????? Sorry for the long post but really hope someone can enlighten me..... :?

Cheers
Chainey

Sounds like he is a young male. Probably not grown in all the peach, which should actually turn into orange cheek patches.

blue - you are so lucky to have a male like that. All my zebra males are black cheeks and I have seriously always wanted one like yours! I have females that color... In fact, I have a CFW black cheek female, but would love one with the cheek color your Marshmallow has! :D
