Java finches and ?
Hi, I'm new to the forum, and am glad to find others who love finches!
I recently got a pair of Java finches, and would like to put them in a flight cage (32" wide x 21" deep x 35" high) with a few other finches. Should I get another pair of Java finches, or something else.
Even though I have a male and female Java, I don't really want to breed, I just love watching the entertaining antics of finches. Would it be easier to get two females of another variety?
previously I have owned cut throat and zebra finches, and canaries. I did breed some canaries. I love the song of cut throats, but I fear they are too small for Javas.

From what i have read,Java can be agressive to other birds if not in a large enough aviary, the size of cage you are talking about i would just keep one pair in personaly
As for birds that go together well, owl finch and silverbills are great together,so are bengallesse(societie) finch with zebs

Since Javas are large finches, the size of your cage is not large enough for another pair of finches.

Re: Java finches and ?
I am also interested in this question as I have two male javas alone and would like to know as well what other species could be put in with them without a problem. My flight is large enough for 6-8 finches perhaps less of the Java size. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks
Thanks

Zebras or Canaries don't get bothered by Javas.Or of course larger birds like doves, but that's pushing it in a small cage/flight.

Re: Java finches and ?
Thanks everyone for your help. I've decided to just keep to the one pair of Java finches... for now.
If I can't help myself in the future, I'll get another cage.
I just ADORE my little finches! They are healthy and active, although I think they've never seen greens or fruit before, as they won't even touch them. I'll just keep trying. I'm putting some seeds on lettuce leaves. We'll see

I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the Javas so much, Tweet. That's a great idea to put some seeds on the lettuce to entice them over to it. Nice move!!

Very awesome! I almost came home with a pair of Javas yesterday but I thought I had a full enough plate as it were. I'm glad to see you're loving them!

Re: Java finches and ?
I have a very large indoor aviary 6ft tall, 2 ft deep and 5 ft wide, and I added a pair of Javas to the 14 other finches in there.
(the 14 are a huge variety, 2 female zebras, 2 cordons, 6 gouldians, 2 mannikins, 2 goldbreasts)
I was worried at first since the Javas were soooo much bigger and seemed to peck at any of the others who sat on the same perch, but a few months later, it's no big deal.
A few people said I had too many finches in there, but I gotta say, most of the time I can only see 6 to 8 tops. I put in a lot of fake greenery and there's endless perches (I cut actual branches from trees and all the side perches provide a ton of places for them to sit)
anyway, I couldnt help myself when I saw the Javas. They are stunningly elegant.
