New Pied RT Parrot and Cuban Finch

Post by L in Ontario » Sun Feb 06, 2011 2:16 pm

I lost my slightly pied Red-throat Parrot finch a few weeks ago - no idea why but I just got a replacement for him today. This is a much more pied 2010 male and he looks great to me. I'm wondering if he'll get even more pied. I would think he hasn't gone through many moults since he is closed-banded 2010. :D

I also picked up a male Cuban Finch for Janine at the same time. This is also a 2010 and looks great too! =D>

Both have been Scatted and Vitalized and are in quarantine for the next month.

Edit: Whoops, I guess Janine would like to see pics of her new boy who is singing already. And I'll show my RTP too. :D

Liz, he will get more pied with each moult. I have had some go from 10% to 80% pied at 12 months old. Mine seem to gain most pied markings around 9-12 months old.

Thanks Rich but that's just it - I don't know what month he hatched in 2010. So I'll just be hoping he will get more yellow on him. He already has more now than the first RT male had at 1 year of age.

Thanks Bill and Anna. They do both look terrific and although they were in different cages where I bought them - they have cuddled up to each other and are best friends already! I just hope the RT is a 'heavy pied' Parrot finch. [-o<

His yellow seems to be all over too - not just in one area like some have when they are young.

I think he will get more yellow as he gets older too

Congrats :D

Definitely you will get more yellow. Chili Pepper's first molt he still had a lot of green -- now I would say he's about 2/3 yellow (and not a year old yet but almost!)

Lovely! I would say that is a heavy pied. He will only get more heavy with age.
