Is this for the sake of breeding or for their personality? Will a red-cheek male live happily with a blue-cap female or will they fight? Will they hybridize? I'm just curious. I have no intention of mixes species.

Okay that's what I thought.

Maybe another question: my female had poo and seeds stuck to her feet and she couldn't perch. I washed her feet but now she's wet. Will she freeze to death? She sleeping now that I've washed her. I put a heater in the room set to 24'F. Should I be drying her off or something? I'm pretty they would jump around in a birdbath but she's so small and looks so pathetic now that she's wet.

I would but a lamp shining on the cage so she can get warm

Mike, I think you mean 24C = 75F, not 24F = brrrrrrrrrr

I agree w BCamp, put an incandescent lamp shining on part of the cage, so she can go there to warm up. Yeah they do look pretty ratty when they get all wet. But how did she get all wet from you just washing her feet? I understand when they get into a bath, THEN they can get totally wet.

I have 2 lamps, 1 regular 60w incandesent, and 1 50w IR red lamp. The IR lamp I leave on 24/7 so they can get warmth even at night. The incandescent I turn off at night.

She turned out all right this morning. The male was beside her all night so I guess he helped keep her warm. She looks a little ratty right now.

Well I was holding her in one hand and trying to massage the dirt off with the other but she wiggled a lot and wouldn't stick out her feet. Slowly her underside got wet and as she squirmed around my hand got wet then her top got wet. Then she was all wet.

Could you please explain what type of vinyl this is to me again? Are you talking about soft, flexible vinyl? I'm not even sure what this is normally used for so I don't know where to look for it at Walmart. It's so bendy I don't see how it would work. (It's also not very clear so it would obstruct the view.) I have a piece I got from the Dollar Store that is used in the sink to protect it.

I was thinking you meant acrylic which I can find and cut, no problem, and it stays rigid. Maybe that would work, too.

It is a soft vinyl available at the regular Walmarts (not supercentres) in the fabric department. Comes in 3 or 4' widths. And yes it is absolutely clear (like glass).

Thanks! I'll take a look today. I have a non-supercentre nearby so maybe they will have it.
