I have an aviary!

Post by konkata » Sun Feb 13, 2011 9:52 pm

omg finally! I found this on craigslist for $50 and its SO much better than the one I was going to buy for $200+. My finches are LOVING it.

They're all inside except for the cutthroats who're in a pretty large cage by themselves. I'm watching carefully for any bullies. My two male zebras, Decoy and Bullseye would be the main problem, but my new florida fancy female is keeping them in line a lot more than I could have imagined.

Anyways, here it is!:

Excuse the mess, I have a rampant 2 year old.

The cage is 7ft high, 3ft wide and 2ft deep. The entire side of it opens up as a door which is kind of a flaw for me since the finches tend to scatter when I open it, but I'll manage to figure out something!

I bought 4 of them simular to these a few years back.. The only difference is the ones I have are ~ 5 ft deep.. But with the full size door, finches got out on me to.. I put a couple of hooks at the top & whenever I am going into these flights, I hang a sheet on the hooks.. Works like a charm :D

Nice flight. You should try and figure out a way to put it on it side and the birds would love it even more. I guess the hard part would be figuring out how to put in a divider! Are the parts facing the wall solid?

Everything is solid except for the door on the right and the ceiling. I didn't think about putting it on it's side...thats definitely something I'll have to consider. It actually has wheels on the bottom so maybe I can convince my husband to build a table for it and turn it sideways.

The towel idea is so awesome! A friend of mine showed me a screen product that I could get that would work perfectly, but the towel idea will definitely get me through until then!

Very nice! I agree... if you put it on it's side they would LOVE all the flight room.
