I use a mini-food process that I picked up at CostCo.
It is a LOT easier than knife and fork.
Someone here gave me that recommendation.

I put a spoon of corn mean into the egg before I start the food processor. That absorbs some of the moisture and keeps it from getting sticky before I feed it to the brids.

I feed miracle meal and quicko and hard boiled eggs. I feed the miracle meal to my breeders, the boiled egg to the ones with hatchlings, and quicko to my none breeders :D
Mother of two kids, 8 Green back Gouldians, 4 Yellow Back Gouldians, and 1 Blue Back Gouldian, 4 precious baby Gouldians, 2 Red Factor Canaries, 1 Cordon Blue finch (my singer), 3 societies, and one very hungry Lilac Point Siamese Cat.

Curious as to why three different kinds for three different stages?

Well I had a post a bit ago about using the miracle meal and possibly boiled egg and everyone agreed I should be giving the birds boiled egg for the babies. The quicko I figured probably didn't have as much nutrients in it as the miracle meal and right now I don't have a big bag of it, only a small one, so I just make sure my breeding pairs get it. My other none breeding birds get the regular quicko. They do pretty well on it though. Do you think I might be over-doing it possibly?

Now don't laugh too hard Misty. [-X But I started out using one of them, until I realized that my birds were getting even more protein from my finger shavings. #-o

 See that is where my dog comes in... Rumer loves when I make eggfood for the birds - she is right there waiting for the egg part that I can't push thru without hitting my fingers on the grater... She loves EGGS! Another word that her doggie IQ has in check - just mention EGGS and she runs to the kitchen!

My dog and I have the same routine  She responds to different locations for her treats. I ask Goody? she will runs to her jerky jar, leftovers? refrigerator? she runs to the fridge. Food? she runs to the laundry room where her food bags are store. Eggfood? she runs to the cabinet where I keep the grater. Making eggfood is one of her favorite pastimes... proof is in her belly  Her I.Q. responds through belly training
I use this type grater, and use the medium holes opposite the ones in the photo

Thankfully Rumer is fit - she runs and runs and is on "duty" when outside so any little extra treats like that actually help keep her weight up as you probably know Candace GS's are usually pretty hard to keep weight on them....

We use the word "kibbles" for food and for anything else I swear the dog knows that a specific word is "food" like mention "bread" and she is looking to the kitchen - oh and we love the word "cheese" as much as we love "eggies" - girlfriend is on it! :D

Here is my dilemma…

I need something to dry up the real eggfood. I’ve been using the Organic corn meal but I dislike it and so do the birds in general.

I’m not using the Jiffy Corn meal mixes because of the sodium in it. The organic corn meal works but the birds do not like it and I’m guessing because my birds just don’t like the taste and or texture that it adds to the egg food.

I normally use Miracle Meal to dry up the eggfood but Miracle Meal even for us distributors is costly, especially with added shipping charges.

So, once again I went looking last night at different eggfoods to use only to dry up the hard boiled egg. Was comparing prices to quality and found that Abba is quite cost effective and perhaps I should try it again since the first batch I got smelled literally of vomit! It was disgusting.

I like to feed any parents that are feeding eggfood – not necessarily the whole flock but parents feeding and of course young birds that are weaning and or still trying to figure it all out. Plus with having the Canaries and Linnies – I need to be able to mix up eggfood that will benefit all even though the Linnies will NOT touch any hardboiled egg but will devour anything else put in front of them! Stinkers!

I wonder if I shouldn’t just start baking something of my own that is like a processed dry eggfood and call it a day!

I am not a fan of the ingredients in most commercial eggfood mixes –most are just filled with crap.

I actually used this before switching over to the Miracle Meal - birds really didn't eat it dry and alone but it would be good for the eggfood (to help dry it up). This is the reason I switched to Orlux - birds love this but it doesn't do good in eggfood (yuck). lol

My friend that raises linnies uses it for all his hookbills and he goes through 25 lb bags like crazy. My bourkes all love it dry with finch pellets mixed in. Some of my finches prefer it ground with pellets over boiled egg.
