Herbs

Post by Chainey » Wed Oct 31, 2007 6:31 am

I was pruning back my herb garden tonight and wondered what your thoughts were on feeding herbs to zebra finches? I have read conflicting articles on the subject. If you feel its safe, are there any that are not safe? I've also read somewhere that gum trees arent safe...is this true?

Cheers!

Hi Chainey,

I feed my bird alot of the "basic" herbs that I use in cooking (I always buy to much...so they get all my extras) and they love them. I'm sure there is a list on the internet if you do a search.

The only greens/herbs I feed my finches are cucumber, romaine, broccoli, peppers, sprouts, and the herb salad that TammyS sells :)

I feed my birds my extra fresh herbs also...oregano, thyme, italian parsley (sparingly since it's on some lists but not on others), and mint.

I saw thyme, oregano and mint listed. I wonder about chives?

If you arent sure what herbs to get, why not give them Herb salad?
My birds go CRAZY for this stuff. There are 22 different herbs in it, and they pick out what they need whenever they need it for their bodies.

It also lists whats in it, so if you wanted to try some fresh herbs (thyme for example) you could ;)
I think this is great to have in their cage at all times
